Just information that I have picked up. I just read on the Internet that the world will be coming to an end in 2013 so you really have nothing to worry about. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Good one Arlene. Totally spaced off the Go Meals app. Even though I have it. It is a really good app and has darn near everything. My only complaint is that it is slow because the app is so huge. Justin Justin, I rarely use it but when I got my new computer and had trouble syncing my iPod and found that I couldn't open Go Meals I was upset. I finally discovered that there was an updated version and I did get it on my iPod. It's nice to know that it's there. Try the updated version. Maybe it's faster. |

With the Obamacare coming on board in 2014, has anybody know how that will effect Diabetics care and supplies or even getting replacement pump when it's time? Personally, I think we as diabetics will be screwed and if you have any serious conditions from Diabetes, you will be put out to pasture. And where are you getting this information? |

Well I had the total opposite experience. When I got my Revel and could use the Link feature again (I had to turn it off because it was not compatible with CGMS on a 522) I called Lifescan and asked for a second link meter because I keep one in my purse at all times and the other in my house. The woman I spoke to refused. She said I had to call MM and get it from them. Needless to say MM would not give me one for free, even after I offered to start buying my strips from them. They were even having a promotion sending them to anyone who bought 300 strips. But my insurance only allows me to buy 200 strips at one time. I finally got a 2nd one from someone in my pump club who had to go off her pump due to finances. Linda B. I think that getting one and getting a replacement for one that you already have is different. They don't want the responsibility of a malfunctioning meter whatever the reason. You can't sue them for a meter you don't have. |

I posted this on CWD but I lurk here so often and thought I'd share this: Well, I had 2 meters, one for home and one for school (dd, age 8, has D). One came with the pump and the endo gave us the other. They both link to the mm pump. So when we went to Hurricane Harbor I took dd's kit and locked it in the locker and kept a meter, strips, gluc, in a baggy in a fanny pack, just in case we were in line at a water ride and needed it. Well of course the baggy totally leaked and everything in it was soaked. I still had her other meter so we were good. But I still need one for school. So, I call the number on the back 866-621-4846 and just said, "Hi, dd's meter says 'Warning Error 1 meter Problem Call Customer Service.' " The nice woman took my contact info and the serial number on the meter--mind you I had not "registered" the meter or anything and received them both for free, and I don't know which one broke, the mm one or the endo one. She said that an Error 1 message is usually something that can't be fixed and she'll send me a new one under warranty. I have no idea how long I've had them--I guess since dd started pumping, over a year--but I didn't fill in any warrenty card or anything. I didn't mention any water damage and she didn't ask. She didn't ask where or when I got it or what happened to it. All I said was that it said this message and gave her the serial number, our address, etc. So one is in the mail free of charge. I'm just saying. . . Even if it was out of warranty they probably would have sent you another one. Lifescan is good. |

Hello. I am a new pump user (2 days). I am also fairly new to counting carbs. My first days, I have been doing very well on a low carb diet. So....I have a setting of .25 b (24 hrs), and am battling the numbers with carb counting for my Bolus. For example....yesterday I ate a yogurt w/15 g carbs for breakfast, lunch, a salad w around 15 carbs, and dinner was out to eat (seafood bucket). I thought I did a good job (I ate 4 steamed shrimp (dipped in cocktail sauce), maybe 1lb of snow & king crab legs, and 10 steamed muscles and clams, and 3 corn on the cob "niblets"-(1/5 of a corn cob). I also had a side salad which I didn't eat all of. I estimated my carb count to be in the 30's so I gave 2 B units. I battled the 200's all post dinner and kept giving an additional 2 B's (thinking when I checked my sugar post dinner, perhaps the carbs hadn't yet peaked). I would really appreciate some ideas on what I may be doing wrong. Also, my spouse is a nurse, and we have been "arguing" regarding what to do with my BG's. I think the stress of it being new, and the arguing also have spiked my blood sugar a bit. HELP!! Thanks Johnny It's a good idea to buy the Calorie King book but you cal also go to Calorieking.com and check nutritional values of specific foods online. Also if you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch you can get an app called Go Meals. It's a Sanofi app but it's powered by Calorie King. |

Next month I am taking a 'loaner' with me on an overseas trip. I called my insurance person and told her that while I hadn't been worried about insuring something that is attached 24/7, I am concerned about taking a very expensive 'loaner' to Korea. She looked it up. Such a medical device can be insured through my home owner's (renters, actually) for $200 a year, and I can cancel it after I get back and return the pump. Suzan That's good to know. I am always concerned about the backup I take with me on trips. I usually put it in the hotel safe. I have always assumed it was covered under my homeowners policy. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) --><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Linda B @ Sep 5 2010, 07:04 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Homeowners or Renters insurance should cover it if it were lost or stolen.I'm not sure of this. I suspect that many insurance policies would require a special rider for medical equipment, especially as it is so expensive. I'd suggest asking your insurance agent. I haven't done anything about it as I never disconnect except when I'm showering and that would only be in my home or hotel room. It has always been the same for me except when I had to leave my pump in my hospital room when I was taken down to Imaging for an MRA. When I went in as outpatient I was able to lock my pump in a locker. I would never just leave it on the beach or at a pool. |

You obviously have more experience than I. I re-read everything Medtronics has in their promotional web materials and cannot find where that system displays what the pump knows or that the pump can be fully controlled from the remote. They seem to be concentrating on their CGM integration. Esp. if one is into CGM, it sure looks like a nice system. Medtronics has been around for a long time and I did consider that stability at one point. MM has offered a remote device for years--I had one in 2001 with a 508 pump. That allows one to bolus remotely. I used it once. But that is quite different from the meter that transmits blood sugar readings to the pump. I never said that the pump can be controlled by the meter. After the reading is transmitted the rest is controlled from the pump. For example, I test my blood sugar with the Ultralink before dinner, and my reading (116) is transmitted to the pump. (The meter is finished with its work.) I am asked if I wish to use the number to calibrate my pump. I make my selection (No is the default) and then go to another screen which displays the number 116. I input my carb count and the bolus wizard calculates the amount of insulin I should take. This is all done on the pump. It is a nice system. I have been pumping with Minimed (now Medtronic) for 17 years. The Revel has a lot of nice new features. |

While the Med unit takes in test results, that is all it does. That's not true. With the Revel, when the test result is transmitted from the meter to the pump it first allows you to decide whether to use the number for calibration. Either way the number appears on a screen and it can work with the bolus wizard. You don't have a food database but you can enter the amount of carbs and the bolus wizard will determine your bolus taking into account your IOB, your insulin sensitivity, etc. You can override the bolus choice or you can ACTivate it. So it's not just a matter of transmitting the number to the pump. |

As for the communication between the Ultra Link meter and the pump, I recall reading about the issue when not to use the transmitted BG value as a calibration and did not use the Ultra Link meter for a while. Then I started using it again due to the ease of having the BG value transmitted to the pump. I remeber reviewing the MM literature to make sure I rmembered the issue with this and really coudn't find it again. Could someone please advise me what the exact issue is again; I'd appreciate it!? If you use the UltraLink with the 522 and CGMS you need to turn the COM function off. If it's on, each time you test the sensor is calibrated. That flaw has been fixed with the Revel where you have a choice regarding calibration. |

266 now and then should not be a concern - nobody is perfect - consistently? then yes - it is an issue - i regularly see readings like that and i regularly address them - u need to look at the A1C's for an idea of the long term readings. I think you responded to the wrong post. I might add that the OP said that her T2 father's sugars are consistently 250-305. I think that's a concern. |

Unfortunately, the minimal, or absent, BG testing by people with T2 is often caused by their doctors! I have several friends with T2 who tell me their docs instruct them to test only once a day, or every other day, or even not at all! Two of my friends do not even have a meter because their "doctor tests" them. When I try to offer my insight they get hostile: "You do not know better than my doctor!" I haven't been offering much insight lately. Barbara Often T2s don't go to endocrinologists and their PCPs don't encourage them to test. When I was going to the Joslin I overheard the receptionist talking to a woman who wanted to make an appointment with one of the doctors. She was told she would have to monitor her own BG levels a certain amount of times per day. The woman said she didn't even have a meter because her doctor didn't want her to test herself. OTOH, for the past 17 plus years I have been a moderator on a diabetes forum that started out with mostly Type 1s but now I am probably the only Type 1 there and I stay there to do the technical stuff but I must say that every regular poster (some have been there for as long as I have) is a Type 2 who tests regularly, is very knowledgeable, sees a physician (mostly an endo) regularly, watches his/her diet, etc. But I think these people (and others who participate in forums) are the exceptions--unfortunately. |

I am a frequent flyer based out of Phoenix. I have a ritual before going through TSA that saves me headaches. Before getting in line, I go over to an area with a shelf (Terminal 4 it's easy), place my watch, belt and insulin pump in my laptop bag. TSA sees the pump in the laptop bag, no problems ever. My guess is that I have been through TSA at PHX approximately 2,000 times since I started pumping in January 2000. (yeah, I know! I've been the top segment flyer with Southwest two years in a row). Never once have I been stopped and wanded or a full bag search. A couple times they took at a look at my laptop due to having 2 AC adapters, or once when I had a netbook and notebook in one bag. Never had anyone ask about the pump. I almost always make it to the gate before non-pumpers even though I have to put on my belt, watch and pump. I should add, I always carry my pump in my pocket, with a small hole in the pockets near the top for tubing. If you take a ritual approach like this, you'll sail through and you will never forget anything at the scanner. Several TSA people have told me over the years that folks like me breeze through because we look like typical frequent flyers that shouldn't be carrying anything that is banned. Of course as mentioned here, agents all work differently but I have to believe that there is a kernel of truth in that for a lot of TSA agents. I'm glad that works for you. I wouldn't want to put my pump through the X-Ray machine and I had a problem back in 1993 or 1994 when I carried my pump in a case with a metal clasp. I have never removed my pump to go through security and I don't fly as often as you do but I do fly several times a year. |

I just noted that you live in Canada! I know that the school system there is a bit different than the USA so maybe I'm totally unaware of what to expect! Peter B You might want to take a look at THIS. and THIS. My niece's husband teaches in a small town in Michigan. The school district can't afford a full-time nurse and teachers are asked to handle situations where there is a child who needs assistance. He (the teacher) asked my help because he has a student on the pump. With incidents such as confiscating pumps it is important that school personnel be educated. |

I have asked to get the Medtronic CGMS. I know they have to get insurance approval, and probably a letter of medical necessity from my doctor. Based on my experience with the pump, I didn't expect to hear anything about the progress until POOF it's ready to ship! Today, I logged in to the online Minimed Store, clicked on Order History, and there was an entry for MiniLink™ REAL-Time Transmitter and Glucose Sensors (10 pack). But next to the MiniLink™ REAL-Time Transmitter it said "No Longer Available." I called and talked with a very nice young man who told me it just meant the order was still going through insurance approval. Um, OK. I figured that meant he didn't know/wasn't allowed to say what was really going on. The MiniLink™ REAL-Time Transmitter is not listed on the online store, nor could I even get to Reservoirs or Test Strips. Anyone here have an idea about what's going on? Is there a new REAL-Time Transmitter in the works? Reservoirs and test strips are listed in the online store but as far as I know the transmitter has never been listed there. It is a special order and it must be done by phone. I suggest that you call and ask to speak to someone in the insurance department. You probably called the sales department and they wouldn't know what's going on. Do you have a rep? Perhaps you should get in touch with him/her. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) --><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Peter B @ Aug 30 2010, 05:58 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->On my Paradigm, I get no delivery messages but not very often. I don't get resevoir empty messages ever; at least maybe 3 or 4 over 6 years and I wish I'd get more. If I'm home, I tend to let my resevoir get low or forget that I'm running low so I wish I got empty resevoir messages more often. You can change the setting for when you get a Low Reservoir alarm. You can set it by units or by time, but if you set it by time it calculates only based on basal. I prefer setting it by the # of units. I always have insulin in my bag and I also keep a vial at work so I have my alarm set for 5 units because I don't need it going off constantly. If you change it to 20 or 30 units, depending on how much your TDD is, you should have plenty of warning. Even when it gets to zero units on the pump screen you still have another 10 units or so in the reservoir. I still keep mine set at 20 units even though I know that will hold me for a day, but I can't forget that one very ordinary night three years ago I went out to dinner and I fell and spent the next eleven days in the hospital. I had enough insulin to tide me over until the next day and my husband brought all my stuff to the hospital the next day, but one never knows. |

I'm under warranty for 1 1/2 weeks on my 522. So by the time they'd ship me a "recertified" 523 the warranty period would essentially be over. It's taking a risk cause my 522 operationally has no problems (knock on wood) so I'd run the risk of getting a 523 that potentially might have problems but be out of warranty. That's why I said that it doesn't pay to go through the Pathway program with the 522. However, if you want a Revel and your insurance will pay for it you can get a new Revel, keep your 522, and if a new pump comes out within your new four-year Revel warranty, you can then go through the Pathway program. |

Well actually I'm still just barely under warranty on my 522 so I could get a 523 under the Pathway program. But I'd be out of warranty on the 523 very quickly so if I have any problems with the one they'd send me I'd be out of luck. MM also told me the 523 they would send is a "recertified" pump, not a new one. When the Revels first came out in March, people who went through the Pathway program received new pumps because MM had no recertified pumps. Now they do have them and that's what the Pathway program has always sent. If you wait until your warranty is up you could get a new 523 through insurance with a four-year warranty and you would keep your 522. But if a new pump is introduced within those 4 years you could go through the Pathway program. I don't think it makes sense to go through the Pathway program if your 522 warranty is almost (I don't know what you mean by "barely under warranty) up. |

My dd is 15yo and was set up with her new pump today. It hurt to put the infusion in, but that settled within a reasonable time. Unfortunately after a minute or two she started getting really sharp pain in her belly where the infusion went in. She also had the same problem with the CGMS when the hospital tried her with that a few years ago. The pain was really severe and she had to be taken off the pump after 30 mins. They tried another site, but after that she was too distressed by the pain to continue. Does anyone have any suggestions? They've said they will try again whenever she's ready. She really wants the pump. Has anyone else had similar problems and how did you get over them. We've decided to see if she has more luck in her legs rather than her belly, but not sure if it will make a difference. The pump she had was a medtronic paradigm with 6mm infusion set. Thanks for any ideas. Which infusion set? |

I don't use the ones with the flap over the top. I use the open top cases. Much easier to get out than the cheap clips that come with all the pumps. I rarely check my pump just for bolus and sometimes to see the time of bolus for a BS check two hours after meal. I really like the pump covered as it muffles the loud alarms. LOL As I noted, with a CGMS one doesn't want to keep pulling the pump out either to see the BG level or to see and clear one of the many alerts. But if the case works for you, fine. I have never had a problem with the MM clip and I cover my screen with a screen protector. |

I don't think they have an app. I just checked and still no calorie king app. I do have a shortcut on my home screen to their web site, but that's not the same as an application. It's Go Meals by Sanofi and powered by Calorie King. CLICK HERE |

I like the phone cases. They are the perfect size and cover the screen of the pump so it does'nt get scratched. I would suggest using the slender "strap" and loop it around a belt or belt loop. Mine has never fallen out or unclipped when using the strap. I have used phone caases for 6.5 years with no problems at all. For the pump a closed case is fine but with the CGMS I like to check my BG levels frequently and also I need to have my pump visible and accessible because I have it set for so many alerts. |

I have read in a couple of other posts about others having lost "some" of their food data from their meter... I somehow managed to wipe it out completely! I was attempting to add some of my own meals to my favorites. I have gone back to my EZ manger (not very ez in my opinion) and now it won't even recognize my meter? It says "no meter found" Any ideas on how to recover the food data? Have you tried calling Animas? |
