I got my dexcom today! My first impression is good.

It is what I expected. Easy to setup, sensor went in without to much grief. (After 5 Calibrations - because my BG was over 400mg, caused by prednisone).

Got my BG back down and got to watch it happen in realtime. 5 min increments

I've had my Dex for about 10 days now. So far so good I really like the Dexcom. I'm glad you like yours.

It's interesting the see the effect of prednisone on blood sugars. It's been a couple of years since I've needed to take it.

This is going to make controlling my prednisone highs much easier, I can cache them before they get over 180 now(Where I set my high alert).
So far I caught one today and switched my pump to my prednisone basal and headed it off before it went to high.

While I was on prednisone, I had to crank my basal up to twice as much as normal, and also doubled my bolus. (Be careful doing this, you don't want to crash). You may be able to find the percentage that works for you

I finally recieved my Dexcom this past wednesday. Like you guys, I am very impressed so far. The whole ordering/recieving process was no less than totally bizzare!!!!
It took 2-3 weeks for me to convince Dexcom that they had the wrong insurance info. They give the wrong insurance info to Edgepark med supplier, then to ice the cake, it was sent to some lady in Pennsylvania. After a week after they sent it out and I did not recieve it, I called and they were like WHAT????

But with that said, I have had it in 2-1/2 days and have had good numbers ever since. I have been letting the numbers play out to see what is going on with my levels before I make adjustments. My Dex readings are mostly with-in 5% of actual finger stick readings.

I was really nervous the first time I put it in. The sensor applicator looks scary with the long needle. I never felt a thing upon insertion, no blood and haven't felt anything since. Can hardly tell its there

It's kinda scary seeing what goes on while sleeping...

My doctor ordered monitoring for one week using the Dexcom and it was quite uncomfortable. after reading your post I wonder if the placement might have been awkward. Even the insertion was very painful. I'm concerned because my doctor has ordered me a Dex monitor. Have any of you used any other monitors? I would really like a monitor that relays info to the pump so as not to have another piece of equipment to carry.

I wonder why your doctor didn't order the Medtronic CGMS which performs the same functionality as the Dexcom and it DOES send the info to your pump? If you did not like the Dexcom you might be able to cancel the order and try the Medtronic one instead.

There are many of us on this forum who use it. You can read some of our posts in the Paradigm section under Continuous Glucose MOnitoring Systems.

I LOVE mine. I have been using it for 4 years (since it became available).

There is a learning curve with all of them. You may be happy with the Dexcom once you get used to it.
