Hi Everybody!

I finally had my training a few days ago! I am up and running and LOVING it!!!
All the things I was worried about..(being connected all the time, sleeping with it... ect) are completely non -factors!
As stated earlier, I hooked up the CGM while waiting on my training... I was able to see how effective my BG control was with injections vs. when I got started on the pump...
Its night and day... You should see the over night fasting graphs with Lantus vs Basal with the pump! Its up and down with the Lantus but its almost a straight line on the pump!!! So much more control!!!

I am so glad I made the decision to go with the pump and I am VERY appreciative of all of you taking the time to answer my questions and give support!!!

Mauserme,
Glad to hear your excitement about being on the pump!! It definitely is a pretty sharp little piece of equipment!! Like you, I had many of the same concerns about being "wired" and I also found it to be of no concern.

When I first went on the pump 5 years ago, I did have one problem. I showered and jumped into the car and got an hour away before I realized I had left my pump at home. What a pain in th a**! I showed up at a family outing 2.5 hours late and with a very unhappy wife.......it can happen very easily....
Good Luck and Happy Pumping!!!!!!

Glad to hear about your smooth start up. I think most people form a close bond with there pumps. This is
impossible to explain to a none user but you probably understand now what everyone has been trying
to explain.

Good luck hope you enjoy your pump as much as I do mine ;-)

I'm so glad that your startup went smoothly! I'm also glad to hear that you've had no problems adapting to the tubing and having something clipped to you all the time. I have to say that I got used to that very quickly as well. Did your trainer say anything about starting the CGMS up on your own?

Yup, Its been pretty smooth so far... I just clip it to the waist band on my PJs and sleep away... it hasnt gotten in the way yet! : )

She didnt seem to mind that I startd the CGM on my own.. Made her life easier I guess. : )

During my training, she mentioned that she had an app on her IPhone that really helped her figure out carbs... I use Verizon so I ordered the new Droid Incredible smartphone...
Was wondering if anyone on here knew of the best Android carb apps???

Thanx!!

I still hesitate and I've been using the sensors for almost 5 years!!!

One other thing, be sure you have covered the sensor and transmitter with tape. It is extremely important that the sensor stays put. If it is allowed to move around underneath your skin it will definitely not work well.
Linda B.

No kidding on that harpoon sized needle! I about had a heart attack the fist time I saw it. LOL As for the taping, I only tape down the sensor. I don't put tape on the transmitter. Then I just put a couple IV3000 over the whole thing. Been working great for me like that for over 2 years now. Like everything else I guess, everyone is different.

I will join in the chorus of 'congrats' for your successful start. Now, you need to update your profile to show the 'My Pump' field as something other than 'none yet'! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/Celebrate 2.gif)

Hey Mauserme,
I've been looking for a carb app on my Droid and I downloaded one but it didn't work too well from my limited amount of trying to play with it. I only saw, I think, 3 apps but am going to look for a calorie counter that might include carbs.
Let me know if you find anything and we can post. As a matter of fact, I think I'll start a new thread!

By "taping", we pretty much mean covering the whole thing with something that sticks down and will hold it in place, not just tape. Covering it with IV3000 is considered taping. I put a strip of Hypafix over the sensor after I insert it (I have a 2" wide roll and cut off a strip maybe 3/4" deep) and then I put a piece of removable double sided Scotch tape on the transmitter. This makes it easier for me to peel off the Opsite Flexifix or Hypafix or Tegaderm that I use to tape the whole thing down since the double sided removable tape comes right off the transmitter. I do get some Opsite residue on the edges of the transmitter.

Hey everybody,

I got another question for you all.

I am at the point now where I am running out of some of the supplies from my initial order... Test strips and Sensors.
My question is, how do the insurance companies usually look at supplies? I have Highmark and my yearly deductable has been met. All supplies now should be covered... but if I went and ordered 50 boxes of Sensors, I am sure they would put up a fuss! How much can I get away with ordering at a time do you think??

Thanx!!!

Hi Eric,
I order my sensors just one box of 10 at a time, because I don't want them to expire before I use them. Some folks order 3 boxes at a time, but then you take the chance that they will expire. I use one sensor for 5 - 7 days, so my box of 10 lasts me at least 2 months. I have never had a problem ordering them 'too soon' after the last order, but every insurance is different. If your insurance makes you order 90 day supplies at a time, then order 2 boxes so you don't run out before you are allowed to order again.
MM should be able to help with your decision.

Linda B.

Hi Linda,

I just called Minimed and my insurance does do the 90 day thing so I am all set!
Thank you much!!
