I have been using the pump now for about 7 months will really no problems. About a month ago i started to have an issue with injection sites. I am ok the first day and a half then the area where the tubing goes in becomes inflamed and painful and i have to remove it and use antibiotic ointment to have it go away. This is happening everytime i inject now, and this last one is really infected. Any suggestions? Is is due to summer heat, like i said no problems in the winter. I only inject in my abdomen.

I am not medically trained, and have never had the problem you describe, but this is what I think based on posts that I have read. You are either allergic to the insulin or to the cannula, but I suspect it's the plastic. Switch to the Sure-Ts. They are a metal set. I know it sounds scary and painful, but the opposite it true. They were designed for little kids. The cannula is tiny, much thinner than the plastic ones. You just push it in and you're good to go. Call the HELPLINE, not the order line, and ask for some Sure-T samples. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you may be allergic to the insulin. Switching from Humalog to Novalog or vice versa might help. Linda B. -------------------- Linda

I also have been pumping for about seven months, but have fought the redness, swelling and infections almost from the beginning. I have had great response from the folks here with assistance. One thing suggested here I do is to let one side of the abdomen rest for a month at a time. So on Sunday, Aug. 1 I will use sites on the left side of my belly for a month to allow the swelling and redness on the right to subside. It is usually real good after 30 days. It's really a little longer than that 'cause for the first two infusions of the month I use the Sure-Ts on the back of my arm. Usually works well. Just this past week I decided to try a Sure-T in the abdomen for the first time. Still had swelling and redness after 1 1/2 days. But give it a try, if you like, they work wonderfully for many here. I have the best success with Sihouettes inserted at a fairly shallow angle.
As mentioned, call the Helpline and get samples of everything you can to find what works best for you. Rotate to as many different sites as you can. JD |

I have an allergy to the glue that they use for the tapes on infusion sets and I find that using Skin Prep helps; I also take antihistamines daily.
If it's a heat/moisture problem, using good aseptic procedures before insertion of infusion sets as well as a topical barrier like Skin Prep might be beneficial! HTH (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) -------------------- Tiffany
