OneTouch Ultralink Glucose Meter Options

Don't know why I keep getting saying 523 (told my new endo the same thing and she had to point that out also), my pump is a 522. And in looking at my post, I'm getting a new pump in early 2013, not 2012.

It's been so long now, I can't remember the reason given why MM couldn't fix the problem. For what you have invested in this equipment, you'd think that it should have been corrected. I'm sure I looked into it but I can't remember anything.

I figured you meant 2013 but I was wondering what kind of new pump you'd be getting if you already the 523. So with the 523 you would be able to use the UltraLink but it will probably come with the Bayer.

That would be great. I have the Paradigm 723 pump. I spoke to Medtronic and the rep said as long is it is a functioning meter then it should work with my pump. Could you check and see which strips it takes since its 4 years old? I'm sure it would still take the same as they sell now but you never know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I have to rethink this a bit. If my Ulralink will work with the Revel, I probably should keep it as a backup, if nothing else. As I mentioned, I'm due for a new pump in early 2013 and I like the Lifescan products.

Just started on my Medtronic Minimed pump and was sent the Bayer Contour meter. However my insurance company does not want to pay for this brand for the strips. They will pay for OneTouch which they no longer have or make anymore. Does anyone have the OneTouch UltraLink meter they would sell or know where I might be able to find one online? Thanks.

This is why I hate the Contour. It would change my A1c form a 5.5 to a 8.0+....it just does not work for me.
I have three UltraLink meters and I pray they last a long time.

Just a suggestion here----. Diabetic supplies manufacturers, like LifeScan, give their devices and supplies to health care professionals intending for them to be given to patients for a variety of reasons. My endo gives away meters on almost a daily basis. I was given an UltraSmart meter years ago when I began MDI treatment even though I could easily have afforded to buy one. The profit from the sale of one BG meter is inconsequential compared to the profit from years of test strip sales that automatically come from the meter.

The suggestion referenced above is, ask your doctor for the meter that you need. Even though Bayer now replaces LifeScan in supplying meters for new pump users, there still must be plenty of "give away" UltraLinks around from doctors. If you simply stated to LifeScan what your circumstances are (you want to use LifeScan strips, but Medtronic will only supply you with a Bayer meter, it doesn't seem likely that they will just say "Gee, tough!". Be a salesman representing yourself to LifeScan. I'll bet that it will work. Good luck!

Tomorrow I will test the new meter at the lab and see how it stacks up against my UltraLink meters. It came with 50 test strips, not the usual 10.
I do not think it has a back lighted screen...but if it does I have not figured out how to turn it on. It also uses the pancake batteries (CR2032) and
the life does not appear to be good...the manual says about 244 transmitted results or 1000 with the trans turned off. Bayer will send free batteries
if you call them. The Contour meter constantly gives me lower BG results than my UltraLink meters...;-( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blubbering.gif)

Not quite sure how to take your comments!? If there is that much of a difference, 15 points on low readings, is it going to be even greater maybe on higher readings. Which one is more a true reading? I would think that FDA would insist on these meters being fairly accurate and consistent. I agree that the batteries don't provide much life for transmitted results but not really using my Ultralink much (522 pump), I don't know what kind of life the Ultralink provided.
I saw your post about your medical issues. Good luck on getting them taken care of!! You seem to take them in stride and keep an upbeat attitude, which I complement!!

The new Contour-Link meter tested the same as my BG test at the lab today (Meter 68 / lab test 68). My Ultralink meters always show a higher BG result
when compared to the Contour so reality my BG is always a little lower than the Ultralink readings and this has always gave me A1c's that are lower than my
meter average. My pump target is set at 90-110 so the meter discrepancy has not been a big problem but if I switch to the Contour I may need to reset my
target to somewhere around 80-100.

The Ultra Link I used with my 522 works with my Revel. I just had to turn the COMM function off for the 522.

This new meter may be a problem for me too when I upgrade to a new pump in early 2012. I have a 4 yr. old Ultralink Meter which I don't use because there are issues with the 523 pump/ cgm. Let me track it down and why don't you look into whether it's compatible with your pump. I would probably think it would work but who knows these days...I don't think it''s an rx issue either since you can by BG monitors anywhere (of course, the MM Ultralink probaly says it is)

Hey Peter: I also have a 523 pump and it suddenly stopped communicating with my one touch ultralink. I've had absolutely no luck EVER getting Medtronic to answer their phone and my rep never returns calls -- I know other patients who have the same problem with her -- and the One Touch people answered their phone, listened to my problem and then transferred me... to Medtronic where the whole circle started. Do you mind telling me what problem you had with your pump that caused you to stop using your One Touch?

Sorry to hear that. Where are you located? Here in the US, the Medtronic help line is renowned for their excellent service.
