My Pump: Paradigm 723/CGMS

I had a good handle on my DP for about two years but lately it is completely out of control. Talked with my Endo about this
and he just stares back at me with this blank look--like a deer in the head lights but I cant fault him it's just crazy--

This morning my BG was 119mg/dL at 3:30 am, not bad but buy the time I could make coffee my sensor starts predicting
high BG so I re-test and it's 153. I do my breakfast bolus set the timer on the stove for 40 min and fix breakfast. The timer
goes off and I retest just to see where I stand before eating, now my BG is 189mg/dL and I do a correction bolus and eat.
In the morning I never have a clue where my BG is going to be in 4 hours it has become a daily battle and I'm loosing.

My sensor ended in the middle of this mess so in about a hour I will be doing another bolus correction or eating Dex4's it's
like shooting craps--- I should just use my magic 8 ball to calculate my morning bolus it would work just as good as anything
I've came up with so far.

Have you ever tried just taking some insulin the minute you wake up? Many of us have to do that. I take 1 unit as soon as I wake up, and my total daily dose is only about 22 units. I have my basal set for DP, and it works if I sleep in, so I know it's right. But in addition to the basal setting, I need a unit to cover the added adrenaline that happens when I get out of bed. and the caffeine in the coffee (I start drinking it within 5 minutes of being awake).
This works great for me.
I know I am not alone, we have had this discussion for years both here and on insulin-pumpers.org.

Linda B.

I have done a bolus many times when I get up but it takes about one hour for it to really get going
and by this time my BG has gone up 70 to 80 points. My breakfast bolus has little impact on this morning spike.
I can do a 80 point correction skip breakfast and the outcome is still about the same. After the spike this
morning my BG ended up at 89mg/dL at 11:00am---perfect for me. I used to have a small snack before
bead time but I stopped and maybe this has something to do with it, I'm trying to keep from gaining any weight
this winter.
