You all probably know that Abbott has suspended production/sales of the Navigator hardware, though they have continued producing sensors and supporting current customers. I had also heard that if someone's system failed while under warranty, they offered a $2000 refund.
I've had my Navigator system for about a year and a half and have been very happy with it (other than the 10 hour warm-up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/Violent.gif) ). Anyway, about a month ago, my receiver broke (one of the battery contacts detached from the body). I called tech support and discussed it with them. They offered that I could wait an unknown amount of time for a replacement receiver or I could get the refund. Mind you, I am well out of warranty. They offered me: * $2,000 for returning the transmitter and receiver, no further obligation on their part. * refund for my remaining sensors (3) based on the receipt I send them. * a free Freestyle Lite meter and 3-months of strips (600). I accepted their offers. Within a couple of days, I received packaging for returning everything, plus the meter and strips. I returned the parts on 7/5. Yesterday, 7/28, by FedEx I received checks for $2,000 and $375 (which is what I paid for the full box of 6 sensors). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/Christmas.gif) Meanwhile, I purchased a Dexcom system. These checks will pay for the system and 3+ boxes for sensors. Overall, I am very happy. I don't know Abbot's motivation, and it could be some FDA thing or fear of lawsuits, but I'd have thought such obligations would end when I went out of warranty. I certainly can't see Medtronic replacing free or refunding more than paid on a out-of-warranty transmitter or Guardian receiver. |

I guess I should add that these comments apply to Abbot in the USA. I know that the Navigator is available in some other countries.
