Does anyone know why the Paradigm reservoirs are tagged as 'limited availability' on Medtronics "store"? I went there a short time ago and both the 1.8 and the 3.0 ml styles were tagged as stated above. I had not heard there might be a shortage?

That makes me wonder if they have discovered an issue that required some to be pulled. I have not heard anything.

I don't have the experience that most have on this board, but sometimes when I change infusion sets and the reservoir - I can smell insulin really strong. I've had my husband examine the chamber where the reservoir is placed and he can't see any moisture. This is just my own observation.

I changed my infusion set and reservoir yesterday morning and also smelled a strong insulin order when I removed it from the pump, I took a Q-Tip and swabbed around in the Reservoir area on the pump but got no insulin on it. Called Medtronic's yesterday and was informed that they have also received calls on the smell. all they would tell me is that they are conducting an investigation and to continue to use the reservoirs that I have, no recall yet. I didn't place an order today. I will probably wait until Monday to do that, but I will let you know what the response is from Medtronic.



I'm kinda glad I mentioned it on the forum because I thought perhaps I was 'losing it' or my nose wasn't working right. Sometimes I can smell insulin when the reservoir is in the pump compartment.......not a huge smell - I just know it smells like insulin.

Place it sooner rather than later, since 'limited availability" is indicated!

I t's unlikely that Medtronic will run out of reservoirs, I remember when they rationed infusion sets, no one did without.
I don't think smelling insulin is anything new, can't remember when I did not smell insulin when changing a infusion set.
Fast acting insulin is water based and if your reservoir is leaking you will definitely see moister inside the pump chamber.

I placed my order on Monday and it is supposed to be delivered today. However because of 'inclement' weather the UPS website has no confirmation of possible delivery date or time. With the wind chills being -20 to -40, I don't care if they wait another day or two til things warm up around here. Supposed to get near 30 deg F by weeks end (I hope).

Forgot to add: I asked the order specialist about the 'limited availability' on the order page of the Medtronic store and she said she "had not been informed of that situation and that it shows they have plenty of reservoirs in stock.

Could be a system bug - I agree - they will not run out - it is their lifeblood (at least for the insulin pump business - they do a lot of other stuff) - I would not worry about it.

I , too have a strong insulin smell, but it is near the infusion site, not the reservoir. I have asked my Medtronic trainer and she just says, it may be that when I change sets, I get some insulin that dripped out of the canula, before inserting and it may affect my hands, but I do wash them!

the latest insert to the reservoirs said to be sure that you turn them upright when you detach from the insulin vial, so that no air or insulin escapes.

I have a different supply company , CCS and they have not reported any shortages.

I asked on medtronics Facebook page and the came back saying they were having problems on the manufacturing end.
