There doesn't seem to be didly squat on here for pregnancy and pumping?!! I have just started working towards the goal of being able to try to children. I need ADVICE!!! PLEASE!! I have to go off a ton of medications, including acid reflux meds - to wussy Pepsid, off cholesterol meds and get my A1C down. I'm at 7.1 now. How do you function at a 6.0? I go low so easily now and sometimes unexpectidly. I've lost 15 lbs from acid reflux disease, so my wieght is good, 113. I'm having a terrible time with infusion sites. I cannot use my abdomen at all! I feel like I'm running out of options. I feel like I may end up back on shots because of it!! I can only use my hip area/side of butt. I have a super short torso so I have about 2 inches of side I can use before I hit ribs. Someone please give me some advice. I'm super stressed out and freaking out.

I was not yet diagnosed when I was pregnant, and my fertile days are now over, so I can't help there.

I am also small, have very limited space on my abdomen for pump sites, and do not have any place I can use for sites above my waist. Like you, I use my hips but my largest area for pump sites is my butt, behind me. I don't see what pump you have. I have the Medtronic and find I can easily insert QuickSets all over my upper butt (anywhere that I do not sit on). It is also easy for me to disconnect (for showers, etc.) and connect behind my back. Even being short (5'1") I use the long tubing, 43", so it easily reaches sometimes from my right butt cheek around my right side across my front and into my left pocket when my sensor is in my left thigh.

My A1c is consistently in the upper 5s; last one was 5.6. Lately I have not gone very low too often (I feel perfectly comfortable in 60s or higher but of course will correct anything under 70), and when I do (like low 40s) I gobble some glucose tablets, which I am never without, and that quickly fixes things.

I'm sure others will chime in with more info.

There is a great type one blogger that has a pump and she documented her entire pre pregnancy and pregnancy issues, etc. You can access her site at www.sixuntilme.com. I have an 8 year old girl and I had Type one when I was pregnant, but I was not on a pump then. I am sure that it would have made a world of difference though. I am a very lean person and I always use my thighs for my infusion sites....Good luck to you!

I have a five year old daughter with type 1...so I am probably not much help. I have heard other kids using their arms for sites with great success and running the tubing down their back or front. Might be worth a try if your running out of spots. Good luck on pre pregnancy goals....a tonne of work but so worth it!!!

Hi Megan, I have a 4 year old (I started pumping when I was 2 months pregnant) and we are now trying for baby #2. Having a really good BG during the night helped my A1C a lot (it's half the day)- I went from 7's to the lower 6's. Also, my endo helped me see that I needed to stop my low BGs in order to prevent the sky high rebounds.

This time (thanks to info I found on this site smile.gif ), I am doing more pre-bolusing before meals. It definitely helps with the BG meal spikes. I have to admit that I eat fewer carbs to get my A1C below 6. I don't deprive myself, just try to eat reasonable portions. One thing that I found is that it was easier for me to have good BGs when I became pregnant. Sseems strange, but I think it was hormones or my reved up metabolism.

I don't know if any of this is helpful for you or not, but don't get discouraged! Let us know if you have any other questions.
