Hi,
I know there are many Canadians on this site (perhaps the majority) and I'd like to get your advice. My husband and I are taking a two week vacation in August to Newfoundland. We've been planninng it for awhile are can't wait. Here is the rough itinerary: We'll be ariving in St John's and touring the Avalon Peninsula for a few days and then we're off to Gros Morne Park for a week. We're actualy renting a camper van for that part of the trip. When we come back we'll spend a few days in St John's before we come home. We'd love recommendations on where to stay and things to see in St. John's, perhaps a small inn or B&B downtown, good restaurants etc. and any suggestions on towns to stop in or places to stay en roue to Gros Morne or on our tour of the Irish Loop (Avalon Peninsula).
We've been told to expect incredible, friendly people, good seafood, Irish music and wide open spaces. We love Canada and this will be our first trip to this area. We've explored B.C. quite extensively and have always had a wonderful time. So, any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sherri
I have travelled and stayed LOTS all throughout Newfoundland!
I recommend spending a few days in Gros Morne park, it is beautiful! Hiking to the top of Gros Morne is worth the effort, seeing the tablelands....and of course a MUST is the boat ride up the fjord! There are a few B&B's there, and hotels - but if you are renting a camper, the best spots are in the camp sites! I did the wilderness traverse trail (several days) and all back country camping - but spent a lot of time in this area!
St John's has a great feel! Make sure you check out Cape Spear, George street, Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi (must see!!)
Please ask all the questions you want....I have spent a lot of time throughout all of NewFoundland...and have roommates from "the rock"
Cheers!

Sounds like you are going to have a great vacation Sherri!
I'm ashamed to say that I've never been that far east in my country, but I know that if I ever do get a chance to go to the east coast (and I plan on it; my uncle recently moved to New Brunswick!) I am obsessed with going to Prince Edward Island and seeing
Green Gables!! If you are a fan of Lucy Maude Montgomery (and really, what girl didn't love Anne lol?) I've been told that it's not only the tourist attraction, but that the island itself is beautiful.
I'm sure you'll have a great time. You'll have to take lots of pictures to share with us in the gallery when you return!
Tiffany - PEI is a 2 hour drive from where I am at....PEI is ALL about Anne of Green Gables!
It is beautiful! Red sand beaches, rolling grass hills and Ocean as far as you can see!
I'll try to dig up some pics!
Cheers,
